WALL STREET - UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA WHARTON MBA PROFESSORS

Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is preparing to borrow from JPMorgan Chase & Co. to help fund his new career in private equity. Geithner's instinct for figuring out how to deal with ordinary people was not to go talk to any, but instead to talk to someone who'd had success marketing himself to them.

THE MBA OATH

As a business leader I recognize my role in society.

•  My purpose is to lead people and manage resources to create value that no single individual can create alone.

•  My decisions affect the well-being of individuals inside and outside my enterprise, today and tomorrow.

Therefore, I promise that:

•  I will manage my enterprise with loyalty and care, and will not advance my personal interests at the expense of my enterprise or society.

•  I will understand and uphold, in letter and spirit, the laws and contracts governing my conduct and that of my enterprise.

•  I will refrain from corruption, unfair competition, or business practices harmful to society.

•  I will protect the human rights and dignity of all people affected by my enterprise, and I will oppose discrimination and exploitation.

•  I will protect the right of future generations to advance their standard of living and enjoy a healthy planet.

•  I will report the performance and risks of my enterprise accurately and honestly.

•  I will invest in developing myself and others, helping the management profession continue to advance and create sustainable and inclusive prosperity.

In exercising my professional duties according to these principles, I recognize that my behavior must set an example of integrity, eliciting trust and esteem from those I serve. I will remain accountable to my peers and to society for my actions and for upholding these standards.

This oath I make freely, and upon my honor.

Doing the right thing. That's what the so-called "Greatest Generation" was all about.

The Greatest Generation was taught to sacrifice for the greater good.  But today no one can lose their job, no one can lose a step in order to help those at the rear, unions get busted. It's every man for himself in America today.  Even if it delivered no riches, even if it granted no fame, even if no one was paying attention, character counted, you had to live up to a moral code, which also included taking care of your brother. That was the ethos of the sixties. The baby boomers broke away from their parents who they considered to be old-fashioned and hopelessly out of touch, but they instituted hippie culture, which was based on the precept that we were all in it together, that we had to look after each other, that we had to love each other. The older generation was stunned when there were no deaths at Woodstock!  Bill Clinton lied under oath. Reagan legitimized greed. In 2008 bankers rape and pillage, and get off scot-free. Legislators care about lobbyists, not constituents. Fat cat corporations don't pay any taxes legally and lying has been legitimized. Without your homeland and your friends, wealth is nothing.

So it's the same as it always was... Bob Dylan told us to wake up and reject those in power.
